About us:
Tranquil Still is a small craft distillery, housed in a garden shed amongst beautiful farmland, close to Market Drayton in North Shropshire.
Set up in 2018, originally as a retirement hobby / business, it is an astonishing accolade for our drinks now to be described as ‘exceptional, and unique’ by no less than the Chair of Judges of the World Drinks Awards.
Our Drinks:
Tranquil Still is dedicated to making only premium quality drinks, handcrafted using only natural ingredients and no added sugars or sweeteners. In addition to occasional ‘one-off’ very small batch creations, our range includes:
Round the Garden Gin, 45% abv. Named after one of our taste testers described its flavour profile as like a walk around his garden, in addition to juniper and coriander this includes honeysuckle, hibiscus, jasmine, marigold, oregano, peppers, etc, and three types of citrus. This high abv gin is well-balanced, and delicious. It needs no additional ‘slice’, just ice and a quality tonic like Fever-Tree Indian. World Gin Awards – Bronze medal.
Damson Gin – Unsweetened, 43% abv. Beautiful in hue and flavour, this carefully matured gin captures that full-on damson burst of vibrant, juicy fruit along with a hint of tannin from the damsons’ skin and a dawning woodiness from its inner stone. A beautiful drink, full of flavour that lingers. This won a Gold medal in the World Gin Awards, and was awarded their coveted overall ‘Country Winner’. Not bad, eh, for a garden shed distillery!
Blueberry Gin, 43% abv. Distilled with berries from our local blueberry farm, with some berries still infusing within each bottle. World Gin Awards – Silver medal. (Tip – decant the berries and enjoy them with ice-cream, in a muffin, or just nibbled from a cocktail stick!)
Clementine Gin, 45% abv. Beautifully tangy fresh clementine, enhanced with the slight tartness of hibiscus, in a carefully created gin. This gin is dedicated to the excellent, vital work of Hope House Children’s Hospice which receives a hefty donation from each bottle sold. World Gin Awards – Bronze medal.
Orient Gin, 45% abv. We love Thai food and sought to capture those delicious south east Asian flavours. In this our most recent addition to our regular stock, we did it! World Gin Awards – Bronze medal.
Tranquil Still Rum, 57% abv. This is a beautifully matured, aromatic lightly-spiced white rum at the full-on Navy Strength of 57% abv. Why’s it called Navy Strength? Because if you’re on stormy high seas and spill your grog ration over the gunpowder, if it’s 57% or above the powder will still fire. If it’s below that, you’re sunk!
Tranquil Still Vodka, 45% abv. Flavoursome and peppery, this unique vodka is truly something special. World Vodka Awards – Silver medal
Hibiscus Vodka, 45% abv. A gently flavoured vodka great to drink on its own, with a beautiful hisbiscus hue designed particularly to enhance the colour of any vodka-based cocktails.
What makes Tranquil Still exceptional?
Well, three things in particular:
1 – From the beginning we sought to control every aspect of the flavours and quality of the drinks we produce and work with our local craft brewery to develop a flavoursome, high strength brew from which we distil our base spirit. We are one of very few craft distillers in the country to do this. Albeit an expensive process, it significantly enhances the subsequent quality of all our drinks.
2 – After a career in post trauma management, then single parenting, our proud dad and ex clinical psychologist distiller (me!) loves learning new things and chose to study and train as a Master Distiller.
3 – To our amazement, our garden shed distillery has gained seven World Drinks Awards. Seven!!! The WDA is akin to the world’s sports Olympics. Their judges are drawn from the best in the world, use the same strictly protected judging process and scoring criteria across the globe, and all drinks are sampled blind. Just like the sports Olympics, you have to be exceptionally good at your craft to gain any medal. Unlike the sports Olympics, the WDA awards a ‘Country Winner’ per drinks category in each country, then just the one ‘World Winner’.
