Tastes Like Lightning

Hello! I’m Polly, a printmaker and illustrator who loves making curious, characterful work through Printmaking, drawing, painting, and ink. I’m inspired by folklore, cryptids, history, and the odd details that make places feel haunted in the best possible way. My work plays with the past as something elastic and story rich, a place where symbols repeat, myths overlap, and not everything needs to be explained. I share my practice through prints, paintings, and workshops, and I really enjoy bringing people into the process. I’m excited to share my work and creative experiences with you, whether that’s through a piece that catches your eye or a hands-on session that invites a bit of experimentation. Above all, I want my work to feel welcoming, imaginative, and full of small discoveries you notice the longer you look.

About

Polly Robinson is a Norwich-based printmaker and illustrator working across drawing, painting, and ink. Her practice is rooted in optimistic, eclectic, and gently eccentric imagery, drawing inspiration from folklore, magic, social history, and the visual language of historical architecture and motifs. Through printmaking and illustrative processes, she explores storytelling, character, and the quiet atmospheres found in landscapes and overlooked details.

Polly lives and works in Norwich, where she has studio space at Sawtooth Studios. Alongside her studio practice, she teaches and hosts creative workshops at Art Pocket and at various venues across the city, sharing accessible, hands-on approaches to printmaking and illustration. She has taken part in a number of exhibitions and events, including a solo exhibition in Vancouver’s East Side in 2024, and regularly enjoys presenting her work to new audiences.

Her artistic journey has been shaped by living, working, and maintaining studio practices internationally, including time spent in Vancouver, Canada, and Melbourne, Australia. She has studied at Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, Manchester Metropolitan University, and Norwich University of the Arts, experiences which continue to inform her exploratory and material-led approach.

Outside the studio, Polly finds inspiration in the outdoors. She enjoys climbing, walking, and visiting historical places, drawing creative energy from weathered surfaces, symbolic ornamentation, and the sense of continuity found in old buildings and landscapes.
