Tagua

Beautiful handmade jewellery crafted from the tagua nut, a sustainable source from the rainforests of Ecuador. Nature's gift, sustainable elegance.

About

Tagua Ltd was established in 2024 by husband-and-wife partnership, Winston and Erzsëbet Roberts, from Oakmere, Cheshire, specialising in the retail of jewellery and gifts, expertly crafted from the tagua nut.

Tagua is a nut derived from palm trees indigenous to the rainforests of Ecuador. Each tree generates numerous bushels of seed pods per year, each holding up to 100 tagua nuts, providing a sustainable source. Once the nuts are harvested, dried, sliced, and dyed (using natural dyes), they offer the foundation for crafting exquisite forms for jewellery, figurines, and practical items like buttons.

Furthermore, supporting this alternative source is essential for conserving various mammals like elephants, whales, and walruses that have been targeted for their ivory. The tagua palm is often referred to as the Ecuadorian Ivory palm.

The production of our beautiful jewellery can only be made possible by the skill of the artisans in Ecuador who craft them.

This in turn empowers the communities by providing reliable employment and a decent living wage which will enable them to eat well, maintain schooling for their children, and invest in their futures.

Rooted in this, traditions are maintained, local economy thrives, and the beautiful rainforest environment remains safeguarded and robust.

Our products are primarily crafted from the tagua seed which is a fully sustainable source. In addition, we also incorporate acai berries, bombona, pambil, and recycled coconut shells and wood,

High-grade, certified organic vegetable dyes are used to give our products such vibrant colour and depth. Our earring backings are nickel-free, lead-free and hypoallergenic, whilst the necklace codes are made using either thread or a faux leather cord. All our products are fully tested, documented and certified by our manufacturer.

For our packaging, we are committed to minimising the impact on the environment by maximising the use of recycled and recyclable materials.
