I’ve been making lampshades since around 2016. At that point I was studying architecture and was interested in the ways that the form and materiality of a lampshade would react to light being put inside. Since I started making them I also found out that it’s part of my family history. My Grandma, from Holland, was one of 10 brothers and sisters who all worked on making and selling lampshades in Enschede, Holland in a shop called Het Lampenhuis. I call my shop Lamp House as a tribute to this. I have a number of designs which are reproducible, but I also take on commissions for lampshades, either variations on my existing designs or entirely new ones. I also occasionally run workshops on making lampshades and lighting design.
