James Ellson was a police officer for fifteen years, starting in London and finishing as a Detective Inspector at Moss Side in Manchester. When he left the police he started writing, and his debut novel The Trail was published in 2020.
Both The Trail and Cold Dawn were longlisted for the Boardman Tasker Award. Cold Summer concludes the Nepal trilogy, and Base Line is the fourth book in the DCI Castle series.
Rockburn is the first in a new series.
James lives on a smallholding in the Peak District, which includes bees and an orchard.
