claybycoleby
I create fun, colourful ceramics to be admired and loved. I make both functional homewares; mugs, cups and bowls alongside bold, decorative interiors great for gifting, such as luminaries, tealight holders’, vases and jewellery dishes. I love colour and experimenting with glazes, layering and blending them as I go, I can never use just one glaze. My ceramics are a mixture of wheel thrown and hand built using white stoneware clay, which I hand paint using premixed commercial glazes and fire to high stoneware temperatures of 1225 - 1260 in my kiln called Pablo. My moto in life and with my pottery is “ALWAYS BE BOLD!”
About
Hello, I’m Helen, the potter behind claybycoleby.
I come from a long line of potters, clay is in my genes, both my uncle and my mother were great potters. My mum taught me to hand build as a child when she ran a pottery club for children at my primary school. I never thought I was any good at art as I could never draw perfectly but I always loved to be creative and get lost in colours. I found pottery again in 2023 when I tried throwing at a taster class at New Dawn Pottery Studio in Manchester. I have now been making my own pottery in my garden studio since August 2025.
