The Caru brandy base is distilled from English wine (Chardonnay) in Essex. After distilling, the brandy is then aged for a minimum of 6 months on site before being developed, with a combination of spices and local honey, into Caru Brandy Liqueur.
Caru was developed from a longing in the midst of a lonely cold lockdown for the taste of Christmas back home in Wales. Originally developed as a ginger brandy liqueur inspired by gingerbread and Old Fashioned’s to be handed out as Christmas gifts, the warm reception Caru received inspired the development of the flavours into a refined artisanal product. With the help of a fellow Welshman (John at his distillery in Essex) to finesse the recipe, we created a delicious liqueur sustainably made in the UK. The brandy is distilled from surplus wine and sweetened with locally sourced honey to support British bees and reduce waste. The liqueur is inspired by the slow food movement and is distilled, aged refined and posted directly from the same site – meaning it has a low carbon footprint. All ingredients and packaging are sustainably sourced where possible. The packaging is recyclable, and we have a commitment to no plastic where possible and otherwise biodegradable plastic only..
